Why Marvelous University?
Let’s start with the word marvelous. It’s a BIG word. Unless you truly embrace it, you might not experience the full benefits of believing you are marvelous.
When I first work with a small group of girls, I use an exercise to remember their names: each girl chooses an adjective starting with the first letter of her name—like Joyful Jessica or Mysterious Mischa. The first time I did this as an Assistant Principal, I realized I didn’t want students calling me Shanterra. I wanted a name that conveyed approachability, honesty, care, and fun, while also reflecting faith, confidence, and inspiration. Since my last name begins with ‘M’, I brainstormed M words: Musical? That’s me, but not quite right. Messy? Well, sometimes my desk is messy, but no. Majestic? Definitely not.
Then Marvelous came to mind. Marvelous is fabulous, extraordinary, incredible, great, superb—it just resonates with me! It’s a word that makes me stand taller and strive to be better. I believe I was born to do something great for this world, and I’m on a mission to do just that—not alone, but with faith, amazing family and friends. Marvelous McBride… yep, that’s me!
But marvelous isn’t just a word I associate with myself. It’s a word I think of when I think of YOU!
