Why Marvelous University?
Well, let’s begin with why marvelous because marvelous is a BIG word and unless you own it, you won’t experience the full benefits of believing you are marvelous.
When I first have a small group of girls, I do an exercise with them that helps me to remember their names. Each girl has to give me an adjective to describe them, beginning with the first letter of their name. For example, Joyful Jessica and Mysterious Mischa. My first time doing this exercise as an Assistant Principal, I knew I didn’t want my students calling me Shanterra. There had to be some level of “I’m cool, but not that cool where we’re on a first-name basis”. I knew I wanted something to describe me where the girls saw that I was approachable, honest, caring and fun. But I also wanted them to see I was faith-filled, confident and inspiring. Since my last name begins with M, I kept thinking of M words: Musical. That’s me, but it wasn’t what I wanted to say. Messy. No, well, sometimes my desk is a bit messy but no. Majestic? No, definitely not!
Finally, Marvelous came to my mind. Marvelous is fabulous, extraordinary, incredible, great, superb, oh the word just does something for me! It’s a word that makes me stand taller and really makes me be better. I believe I was born to do something great for this world and I’m on a mission to do just that. Not by myself though (thank goodness). But with faith, amazing family and friends, Marvelous McBride…yep, that’s me!
But marvelous is not just a word that I think of for me. It’s also a word that I think of when I think of YOU!
