Approval by a 14-year-old

There aren’t a lot of moments where I am overwhelmed with gratitude.

Okay, that’s not all the way true. I’m always overwhelmed with gratitude!

But, this time is special because the gratitude comes because of an Instagram direct message from a 14-year-old girl. 

A couple of weeks ago, she and I were both at the #BestSelf conference. And even though we were in the same space, we didn’t meet one another. The conference had such an impact on her that she reached out to express her gratitude. 🤗

When I first received her message, I was immediately brought to tears because this young marvelous girl thought enough about her experience at the conference that she found me on IG and sent a message. Now THAT is special!

She and I exchanged a few messages and I learned a little about her story. Part of her sharing prompted me to send her a copy of my book. Not for anything in return, I just knew I was supposed to send it to her.

Well, after taking longer than I had liked, I finally put the book in the mail. She received it and READ it in the same day! And sent me the most beautiful “review”.

I am so grateful, thankful and humbled by her. I admit, this message had a little more love on it because, well, she’s a teenager. 

Why is that so special? Because people give teen girls a bad name. And by people, I mean adults. But, when a teenage girl loves something you have done or said or written and then goes the extra mile to TELL you…you have basically won the lottery! 🙌🏾

Because truthfully, I’m even more inspired to go after mine. Love Your Jiggle: The Girl’s Guide To Being Marvelous was once a dream. I was anxious about it. Nervous about what folks were going to say. And praying and hoping it would resonate with girls and young women.

My dream has come true…again and again and again.
