Second Tip: Teach Your Daughter How To Break Up

This is where big decisions are made. It’s one thing to know that you’re unhappy in a friendship and another to actually do something about it. But wouldn’t you agree that if your daughter doesn’t know how to end an unhealthy friendship, it may be all the more difficult for her to recognize the signs and seek refuge if she were in an unhealthy dating relationship?

First Tip: Decide if the Assessment is True

Has your daughter ever said (through sighs and tears) that another girl ruined her day? If your daughter is anything like the ones I’ve worked with over the years, the reason for the ruination could be:

“She didn’t talk to me because I’m not pretty enough and she said I don’t look like the other girls.”

“I couldn’t sit with them because she told them I have an awkward shape.”

“She told the team that if I make it, it’s only because the coach feels sorry for me.”
